Outplay

As a padel player myself, I was excited to take on this project. Outplay is a new padel club that wanted to launch with a strong brand identity from day one. They had a clear vision: follow the structure of successful clubs that had already opened, but with their own distinctive look. The brief was simple but specific: Nike levels of confidence, lime green and black colour palette, and an identity that feels loud and unapologetic.

The Challenge

Padel is growing fast in the UK and new clubs are popping up regularly. Most of them play it safe with their branding, going minimal or trying to look premium in a way that feels generic. Outplay wanted to stand out. They needed a name, a logo, and a full brand system that could work across everything from court signage to merchandise to social media.

The name came from the core of the sport: you're trying to outplay your opponent. It's direct, competitive, and works perfectly for a club that wants to feel energetic rather than exclusive.

The Solution

The logo needed to communicate motion and energy without relying on obvious sports clichés like swooshes or action lines. I used Sharp Grotesk, a geometric sans-serif that's bold and confident, and added a subtle motion blur effect to give it a sense of speed. It's just enough to suggest movement without making it hard to read.

The monogram combines an abstract O and P into a looped shape that represents continuous motion, mirroring the fast-paced back and forth nature of padel. The lime green against near-black creates maximum contrast and makes everything pop, especially under court lighting. It's the kind of palette that demands attention, which is exactly what they wanted.

The Result

Outplay now has a brand that matches the energy of the sport. Honestly, this one came together better than I could have hoped. It's one of those projects where everything just clicked. It works on court uniforms, signage, digital platforms, and promotional materials without losing impact. The identity feels confident and dynamic, and it sets them apart from the more reserved branding you see at other clubs. It's the kind of look that makes you want to book a court.
